Continuing the mission and ministry service modeled by Christ, the Office of Stewardship and Strategic Planning serves to foster education, encouragement, and promotion of stewardship practices, supporting the growth and development of the church in East Tennessee through offerings of time, talent, and treasure.
“The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent, and treasure.”
—Pope Benedict XVI
Based on Scripture, stewardship recognizes God’s love in gifts that we receive and possess. Gratefully acknowledging God’s generosity, we serve as stewards by using and sharing our individual gifts in love of God and neighbor.
Development builds on the relationship with God as reflected in stewardship formation and expression. Faith and vision are integrated to serve the mission of the church. Throughout the Diocese of Knoxville, needs are identified and fulfilled through organization, strategic planning, public relations, and charitable giving.

U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
In 1993 the U.S. bishops published a pastoral letter on stewardship titled “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response.” A 10th-anniversary edition has since been published. The letter is a great resource for understanding stewardship in relation to God and others, and it serves as a call to holiness as a way of living.
