The feast of St. Vincent de Paul was commemorated on Sept. 28 when Society of St. Vincent de Paul conferences from around the Diocese of Knoxville gathered for a festival at St. John Neumann Church in Farragut.
At St. Vincent de Paul, formation is encouraged and promoted. One required course is called the Ozanam Orientation, which was held at the Ladies of Charity in Knoxville on April 23. The Ozanam Orientation, in particular, is important because it sets the spiritual and philosophical tone for its members on what St. Vincent de Paul is about.
The community garden was installed earlier this summer by the St. Vincent de Paul Society conference of the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with the goal of providing free, accessible produce to members of the Happy Holler neighborhood in North Knoxville.
When people find themselves in times of crisis, they often call on the Catholic Church.
