On Sunday, Bishop Mark Beckman provided an update on efforts by the Diocese of Knoxville and its Catholic Charities of East Tennessee to provide emergency assistance to individuals and communities in need.

Bishop Mark Beckman is offering his prayers and the prayers of the Diocese of Knoxville for all those affected by Hurricane Helene and the flooding caused by the hurricane's strong remnants that passed through East Tennessee on Friday.

Due to inclement weather, all 10 Diocese of Knoxville schools will be closed Sept. 27.

Catholic Extension Society has named Sister Mary Lisa Renfer, RSM, as the 2024 recipient of the Lumen Christi Award, the highest honor given by the respected lay organization whose non-profit work supports and strengthens mission dioceses across the United States. Sister Mary Lisa is being recognized for her work with the St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic, which provides health care to low-income, uninsured residents across East Tennessee.

When guests stepped into the Knoxville Convention Center on July 26 for the ordination and installation of Mark Beckman as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville, they were eager to begin a new chapter in the history of the Catholic Church in East Tennessee. But it took weeks of preparation and thousands of man-hours to take care of every detail to reach this monumental day.
