The Diocese of Knoxville is seeking an energetic multimedia reporter who will join its versatile and creative communications team beginning in June 2021. Essential functions: The MMR supports all forms of diocesan communications efforts, primarily in the area of print and digital media. The MMR must be able to create content for The East Tennessee Catholic newspaper and the diocesan website. The MMR will help administer essential organizational components in the communications office, including The East Tennessee Catholic newspaper.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
•Provide content in the form of news articles, press releases, messages, photos, and videos for The East Tennessee Catholic newspaper, the diocesan website, and social media platforms.
•Initiate and develop ideas into print stories for The East Tennessee Catholic newspaper.
•Attend events as assigned by the editor of The East Tennessee Catholic newspaper and the director of communications to create content for the diocesan newspaper, website, and social media platforms.
•When necessary, assist in the production of diocesan video projects.
•Assist with administrative duties in the diocesan communications department.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field;
•Experience in basic news writing, interviewing, and applying those skills to create content for all diocesan print and digital media platforms;
•Experience with newspaper design and software such as InDesign is a plus;
•Experience with basic website content production;
•Ability to shoot and edit photos using digital cameras and photo editing software;
•Must be willing to work weekends and evenings;
•Must be able to pass a background check.
•Bilingual skills are a plus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
DC Art. 61: “It pertains to the moderator of the tribunal chancery, who is automatically a notary for tribunal acts, to see that the acts of the tribunal are properly drawn up and sent, according to the mandate of the judge, and are preserved in the archive.”
REPORTS TO: Judicial Vicar CLASSIFICATION: Full time, 35 hours Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION:
The Moderator of the Tribunal is responsible for maintaining the case files with all the procedural elements necessary in canon law. As each individual case progresses, letters need to be sent, timetables need to be kept track of, and supplementary information may need to be gathered. In addition to these responsibilities, the Moderator also functions as an ecclesiastical notary and office receptionist, who receives and sends all correspondence by mail, phone, and electronic means.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures all petitions that come to the Tribunal are properly filled out
• Enters files into Tribunal database
• Mails all appropriate letters at the appropriate times
• Ensures that no delays are occurring in any case
• Corresponds with the parties to the cases over the phone and over email
• Schedules depositions for parties and witnesses
• Is present at depositions in the function of notary
• Provides administrative assistance to other Tribunal personnel
• Maintains the Tribunal budget
• Maintains the Tribunal archive
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• A practicing Catholic in good standing
• Understands and appreciates the faith of Church as it pertains to marriage, divorce, and annulments
• Able to empathize with parties in difficult situations
• Highly organized and able to meet strict daily deadlines
• Meticulous attention to detail
• A personable demeanor, friendly to talk to
• Basic facility in computer programs (Word, Adobe, Excel, Zoom, etc.)
• Ministry experience or educational training in theology preferred
• Paralegal skills a plus
